Sending a box or two by mail is nice. Loading and shipping a 40-foot cargo container is newsworthy. A local all-news radio station sent one of their reporters, and the local Fox station sent a cameraman. Part of our goal is to put Nigerian Jewry on the “radar screen,” to bring them to the attention of North American Jews the same way that the Abayudaya were brought to their attention. It was nice that our synagogue, Tikvat Israel, got such well-deserved recognition, too. We do many good things - we are a very caring congregation - and we should not be shy about letting the local community know about us.
