B.  Tikvat Israel has shipped two 40’ containers - filled with books on Judaism and computer systems - to help Nigerian Jews become better educated.  Jewish libraries are emerging throughout the country, and Judaica collections have been established at three universities.  We have partnered with the Inwelle Study and Resource Centre in Enugu.  The computers we have sent will be set up at Inwelle,  providing broadband access to the World Wide Web, via satellite.  Inwelle will open its doors to Jewish students, affording them access to Jewish resources on the Internet and on-line connections with Jewish teachers around the world.   Inwelle will also host seminars in Nigeria to promote a better understanding of what constitutes normative Judaism.
A.  According to Rabbi Aaron Kintu Moses, headmaster of the Abayudaya Community’s Hadassah Infant and Primary School, their extraordinary educational program would have closed its doors had not Tikvat Israel Congregation provided the funds to make up the difference between income and expenses.  In 2004, we made a multi-year commitment to provide the school with $4,000 per year to help meet operational expenses.  Additionally, in 2004 and again in 2005, through the generosity of the Temple Israel Foundation, Tikvat Israel provided Hadassah with $5,000 per annum to cover the costs of construction for a new dormitory and expanded classroom space.
(2) Help us find books.

To make our book project work, it is not necessary to buy books.  As the “Greatest Generation” moves to smaller residences, they need to find new homes for their extensive Jewish book collections.  This is not easy as one may think. Institutional Jewish libraries have most if not all of the titles found in private collections and have no shelf space for duplicate titles.  We collect these books and put them in the hands of those who want them but cannot otherwise acquire them - either due to lack of funds or lack of access to vendors of Jewish books.

To date, all of our projects have been self-funded. Now that we have begun to see the results of our efforts and can be sure that monies raised are being used as intended, we can invite others to participate in the sponsorship of our projects. We are now involved with two endeavors, one in Uganda, the other in Nigeria. Ugandan Jewry BOOK COLLECTING HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED Book Project Site
